With the holidays over, it's time to get this wagon a rollin'!

My hope last year was to have our spontaneous debut at Pittsburgh's First Night, but unfortunately this process has been much slower than I had anticipated. Interest has been low, and I think, maybe, partially, it's because Honk is just so unfamiliar here in Pittsburgh, at least in the iteration that I'm envisioning. I can think of many other reasons, but instead of bellyaching, I'm going to continue to hoof it around these parts and get the word out. With the new pages and flyer, I'm also going to give Craigslist another shot. If you come 'round this blog and to the Facebook page, even if you don't want to join, if you like our deal, go ahead and "like" the page, and help spread the word! It would be much appreciated!

Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band has a real rad steampunk thang going on!

HELLO

I'm so glad you're here! The vibrant city of Pittsburgh is a perfect place for another active Honk! band. Flyer catch your eye and you're unsure of what's happening?

HONK! (?!)

-Ambulatory acoustic street bands that play in public spaces and use little to no amplification; a contemporary adaptation of traditional marching bands in which the individual is free to express within the larger context of the band and community. Emphasis is often on inclusivity rather than skill, the positive nature of musical/communal experience, and leftist activism.

MUSIC

Honk! bands have a huge range of instruments, but all must be portable. Any skill level with any portable instrument is welcome. All ages are welcome. To have a solid honk sound, brass instruments are especially important!

ACTIVISM

Honk! bands in part exist to actively engage with the community and be active in political causes established at the band's outset. This band will identify with far leftist causes, but all accepting political leanings are welcome.

FUN

This band will NOT be primarily for profit, and is not meant as a professional commitment. People have jobs, kids, school, lives, and that's okay here! Above all, Honk! is about fun and the aim to capture that exhilarating feeling when music, people and energy meet.
